‘I Love You’ Eggs
This is a wonderful way to express your love for your significant other, or any member of your family, or maybe a good friend. Why not? I made these for my husband for Valentine’s Day as part of his ‘I love you’ breakfast, and he was pretty impressed, I might say But you don’t need to wait for that special day to give your breakfast a little flair!
This is an interesting way of making an ordinary dish look extraordinary! And it’s very easy to do!
You will need:
-2 hot dogs of your choice
-1-2 teaspoons of butter or oil
-salt, pepper to taste
- two toothpicks.
Here is how you do it:
Preheat the oven to 400 F.
Cut each hot dog lengthwise into two halves, but don’t cut all the way, leave about 1/3 of an inch at the end.
Make a heart using a toothpick. Doesn’t it look cool?
Heat oil in a pan (I use my cast iron pan, because it can be transferred directly into the oven), and put the hot dogs in it.
Fry on one side at medium-low heat for about a minute, then flip to the other side, and press gently with a fork for the hot dog to stay ‘glued’ to the pan. This way when you crack the egg into it, it will prevent the egg white from ‘running’ all over the pan (trust me, I’ve been there).
I first crack the egg into a small bowl, and then carefully pour it into the opening of the hot dog. Don’t worry, some of the egg white will escape, but not a lot.
At this point I cut all the egg white that is outside the heart, sprinkle the heart with salt and cracked black pepper, and put my pan into the hot oven. For myself I will keep the eggs in the oven for about 5-6 minutes (I like them soft), for my husband for about 8-9. I usually check after 5 minutes to see how the egg yolks are set, and then bake them for a few minutes more.
Take the toothpicks out, plate your hearts and enjoy!
